In addition, the Confederation has completed the comprehensive conditioning of the river in the city of Murcia and is working on the channel in the towns of Vega Baja del Segura
Municipal representatives of Molina de Segura, Las Torres de Cotillas, Alguazas, Ceuta, Lorquí and Archena have held a meeting at the headquarters of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS), an agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment today.
During the working meeting they have been informed about the program cut reeds being done in the river as it passes through these locations.
This work will be undertaken in coordination with the municipalities affected.
In total, the CHS has begun to cut more than 30 kilometers of reeds in the stretch of the River Segura comprising from Contraparada (municipality of Murcia) to the weir eyes.
This action affects the municipalities of Murcia, Las Torres de Cotillas, Molina de Segura, Alguazas, Ceuta, Lorquí, Archena, Villanueva del Rio Segura, ULEA and eyes.
Furthermore, particularly in Alguazas and Cotillas Towers, cutting reeds it extends to the mouth of the river Mula.
Overall performance
The reed cutting program requires costly and regular investments, so they are experimenting with new ways to eliminate this endemic problem.
In particular LIFE projects include directing the Segura basin in collaboration with universities, Autonomous Community and the Association of Southeast Naturalists (ANSE).
These projects focus on Vega Alta del Segura River and is funded and supported by the European Union.
Finally, we should highlight the performance of comprehensive conditioning of the river that has been done in the urban section of the city.
