The Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment, through the Directorate General of Rural Development and Forestry, will perform works rockfall protection in the municipality of Ojós.
The Director General of Rural Development and Forestry, Federico García Izquierdo, today visited the area where the performances will take place with the mayor of Ojós, Pablo Melgarejo.
The works involve placing barriers antidesprendimiento dynamic meshes anchored profiles made of special steel, high strength, with a height of 6 meters, which retain the rocks that could roll downhill.
Federico García Izquierdo explained that "these structures can absorb an equivalent to between 200 and 300 tons of force, calculated according to the size of the blocks of possible landslides, slope and length of the side impact."
The budget for these works is 557,000 euros, funded by the Autonomous Community and EAFRD funds.
The works complement the same type that have been carried out in the municipalities of White and Ulea, where geomorphological conditions and the location of villages, under beds of sandstone and conglomerates on marl, makes them particularly sensitive to fracture and detachment of large blocks.
