Family allocates more than 200,000 euros for 18 beds in the day center for people with mental illness in Valle de Ricote (30/01/2018)

The counselor of Family and Equality of Opportunities, Violante Tomás, together with the mayor of Ojós, Pablo Melgarejo, and the president of the Murcian Foundation of Mental Health (Fusamen), María José Ortiz, inaugurated today the new day center of the association in the Valle de Ricote, to which the Ministry, through the Murciano Institute of Social Action (IMAS), allocates 202,767 euros to finance 18 places.

In two and a half years in the Region, a total of 461 residential care centers, a day center and the promotion of autonomy have been created.

Of these, 224 are for people with intellectual disabilities, 195 for people with chronic mental illness and 42 for users with physical disabilities.

There are currently 4,036 places in centers for people with disabilities and people with chronic mental illness, of which 587 belong to centers belonging to the Regional Administration and 3,449 correspond to subsidized centers.

For its part, Fusamen received 20,000 euros in 2017 for a project aimed at promoting job training for people with mental illness in the municipality of Murcia.

Likewise, the Community will finance the services provided through various associations of the federation with a total of 5.8 million euros, which will allow reaching more people.

According to Tomás Violante, "it is about fulfilling the commitment of the regional government to improve the attention given to this group."

In addition, he said that "recovery in a mental illness depends on the coordination and intervention of different resources, sometimes health, other social and other psychosocial."

More than 4,500 euros for conciliation

The counselor of Family also committed with the mayor of Ojós to maintain during this year the aid of conciliation of the labor life for families in the municipality.

In this regard, he specified that the Women's General Directorate finances recreational and educational school projects in the municipality for non-school periods intended for children between 3 and 12 years, the extension of hours in schools, extracurricular activities and babysitting services or punctual care.

This year the Community allocates more than 400,000 euros to promote the reconciliation of work, personal and family life with direct aid granted to the 45 municipalities.

Tomás said that "this line of subsidies is part of the regional government's strategy to promote female employability and self-employment in the Region of Murcia."

This aid is financed by 80 percent through the European Social Fund.
